Not in Your Dreams (Solobrien, Vol. 4)
One of only two co-writes with my son Fintan. I wrote this song with Fin maybe 8 years ago and put it on the Zufall? album in 2018.
The song is not about anybody in particular, we just sat down and thought about writing a break-up song.
I was inspired by 10CC’s song ‘I’m Not In Love’ and wanted to write a song that was a complete lie.
For the acoustic guitar alt tuning nerds [which I am], it’s written and played in C5 +9 tuning — CGCGCD.
I thought of every way to make you stay, and now I’m out of luck
Everything we ever had slipped away, and how it hurts
I loved you
I love you
I lay awake last night all those memories drowning in my mind
When we first started out, everything got out of hand
We pulled through, but not this time
And I hope you find what’s out there waiting
I’ll be alright, this has just been the change that I need
Now I’m not in your dreams
I don’t expect a phone call everyday, but let’s try to stay in touch
Let me know you’re still alive, forget to tell me who you love
You know who I love
And in this place that I find myself
This heaven that I had became my hell
If you see me walking down the street with someone just like you
It’s probably coincidence
A twist of fate, a trick of light
It’s not you
It’s not you
